Mission Central
Your Outreach Committee continues its service in the world:
Friends of Refugees: At the March 1 Serve Sunday, 30 bags worth of supplies were donated and packed for the Mommy and Me literacy program. These supplies will enable the refugee mothers and their pre-school children served by the program to continue their work in learning English during the school’s summer break.
Cuba: The $1800 budgeted to support our partner Presbyterian church in Cuba was hand delivered by members of a Presbyterian church in DC who went there on a mission trip. Also, while Saint Luke’s members, Janet and Gary Scott, were in Havana, they met with Pastor Fernando, his wife, Roxana, and their daughter, Alexia.
Habitat for Humanity: March 28 will be the dedication of the 30th Habitat house Saint Luke’s has helped to build in partnership with Dodd-Sterling United Methodist Church. AMAZING, huh? One a year for 30 years!
Alliance for International Reforestation: AIR planted 864,000 trees in 78 communities and schools in Guatemala in 2025. If the numbers from the commercial nurseries that originated as AIR nurseries are included, the 2025 production was 954,405. Every single tree grown is tracked by species (10 different species in 2025) and location.
AIR is in negotiations to buy additional land next to their Panajachel training center. The initial plan is to use the land for training gardens.
New Church Development Commission: Lindsay Armstrong, representing one of our new mission partners, will be the guest speaker at the church breakfast on 4/11. She will share all that is going on with NCDC and ways SLPC can play an active part in it.
YOU can participate in any of these or other mission projects. If you would like to know how, check out the Outreach Wall in the church lobby, read Highlights, and/or contact Nancy Moore, Chair of the Outreach Committee ([email protected]).
