Confirmation is an experience for 8th graders in the fall. It is a few weeks of study and great questions. We work hard, but we have a ton of fun too. We ask questions like: What does it mean to be Presbyterian? What does it mean to be a Christian? What is the Bible? etc. At the end of the experience, each participant will write their own faith statement to share with the session. After wrestling with hard questions of faith each youth will decide if active membership in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is what God is calling them to. If you are in 8th grade and would like to be a part of the next confirmation class contact Erin ([email protected])
Sunday meetings: In general, we will meet on Sundays from 12:00-1:00, starting in September. We will celebrate those who want to become active members on January, during the 10:30 worship service.
Curriculum: Our primary curriculum will be CoLABorate from Sparkhouse publishing.
Covenant Partners: Each confirmand will be connected with leaders from the church with whom they will meet in smaller groups. They will help with faith statements and they really want to get to know you.
Faith Statements
Articulating what we believe is not easy. It’s not easy for adults and it’s not easy for you. It shouldn’t’ be. It matters what we believe and how it influences us. Our faith is our own and thus our faith statements are our own. These are not documents with all the “right” answers, but expressions of where and how you see God working in the world. We will help you through this process along with your covenant partner.
Membership
The goal of confirmation is not membership. However, we will ask you at the end of the process if you’d like to become an “active member” at Saint Luke’s. We will talk more about what this means. You do not “pass” or “fail” confirmation based on if you decide to be an active member or not. That is something that God and you will work out together
