A PLACE TO CALL HOME – A HOUSE REHABBED WITH LOVE. We at Saint Luke’s are missing the renovation of the Habitat house that is to become the home of Nilaja Brooks. But we were able to be with her in spirit, thanks to Jenny Will, our Atlanta Habitat contact, who set up a ZOOM call on July 21. Ms. Brooks, was the star of the session. She was such a positive force, even with the delay that has taken place in the “building” of her Habitat home. Her project is a rehab of an existing house. All together, there were about 16 people, including several from Sing Luke’s, present from a number of partner churches. It was great to meet Ms Brooks and her mother and to her two children through ZOOM.
Work on the renovation has recently started. No volunteers from the churches are permitted on site due to the Covid-19 risks. The crew of four will be led by Joseph, from Atlanta Habitat. I like to think that the theme still applies – Nilaja will be able to call her rehabbed house, home, and I have to believe that the work is being performed with love. And, Nilaja is putting in her required time to help with the renovation.
The address, should you want to drive by to see the house, is 1842 Oakmont Dr NW, Atlanta 30314.
Yes, the house does look a little rough in the picture taken by Jenny Will. Be assured it will look fantastic when the renovation is complete!
