Due to COVID-19, the Habitat for Humanity rehab project is on hold. On March 26, Saint Luke’s Habitat Coordinator Daryl Moore received a message from Lisa Y. Gordon, President and CEO of Atlanta Habitat, outlining the delay of all building projects and the closing of the Atlanta Habitat warehouse and Restore. Below, please find additional details, including the full COVID-19 update:
The Mission: Transform the house at 1842 Oakmont Drive NW into a place that Nilaja Brooks will lovingly refer to as home. She is this year’s Atlanta Haabitat home buyer. She has two daughters, Niah and Nayla. Nilaja works as an agent for a cargo services company. She has volunteered for Atlanta Community Food Bank and is active at her daughters’ schools. Nilaja grew up in a home with her grandmother and now really wants a home that she owns – where she can show her children by example what it means to be a home owner and where she can have her very own garden.
A FEW DETAILS: Our partner, Atlanta Habitat refers to this year’s project as a rehab and rehabbing the house at 1842 Oakmont Drive NW 30314 is exactly what we will do. We will team up with Nilaja and our faith build partners from Dodd-Sterling UMC, Episcopal Cathedral of Saint Philip, Big Bethel AME, First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, Saint James UMC, Covenant Presbyterian, Saint Martin in the Fields, Welcome All Baptist, Impact UMC, Kingswood UMC, Saint John UMC and West Mitchell Street CME
CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: The rehab is on hold during the coronavirus crisis. We received a message from Lisa Y. Gordon, President and CEO of Atlanta Habitat, on March 26 outlining the delay of all building projects and the closing of the Atlanta Habitat warehouse and Restore. Jenny Will is our regular contact at Atlanta Habitat and she has reinforced the message from Lisa Gordon. We will continue to be in touch with Jenny and our Faith Build partners and will communicate any relevant updates through our church communication channels.
In the meantime, there is no need to access the Atlanta Habitat Volunteer Hub site to make changes until our project is rescheduled. According to Jenny Will, the earliest start date would be sometime in May.
