All are welcome for our Summer Sing workshop on Saturday, August 26 from 10 am to Noon in the choir room. Composer Timothy Michael Powell, newly appointed Director of Choral Activities at Oglethorpe University, will be at Saint Luke’s to lead us in excerpts from the Bluegrass Mass by Carol Barnett and from his piece, “Dear Appalachia.” It will be a fun time to make music, socialize and enjoy refreshments together. Mark your calendars now and plan to attend. This is also open to anyone interested, so invite a friend to join you!
TIMOTHY MICHAEL POWELL is a composer, conductor, and music educator (not necessarily in that order!). Called “a skilled composer who understands the voice in all stages of development” by New York Concert reviews, Timothy also serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA. He was one of only 25 educators in the United States to be named a Semi-finalist for the 2016 Grammy Music Educator Award, and won the American Prize in Choral Performance in 2012. He was the 1999 National Choristers Guild Scholar, and a 2002 Fulbright Scholar to Bulgaria.
